Let me start off by stating that I have never had a video game console until last Christmas (2007) when I purchased a PS3. My parents never bought one for us. They didn’t want us to become video game and TV addicts. We even had summer TV hours so that we weren’t sitting around inside doing nothing all day. The only time there was a console in the house was when my brother broke his leg in 1991ish. My parents rented him a Nintendo for a few days or so while the splint was on his leg. He didn’t have a cast yet and was unable to move.

So outside of my recent console purchase, my only real video game experiences were the few times I’d play at a friends house, the game boy advance I had about 6 or so years ago that I hardly ever used, and the week we played some basketball jam game on Nintendo.

I still haven’t completely gotten the hang of games that require use of a bajillion buttons at one time. Not sure I ever will, especially with the addition of motion to controllers on top of the 50 buttons. For some reason though, I have always been good at fighting games. Mortal Kombat, Tekken, you name it. I can’t honestly tell you why I was so good either. I never memorized any combinations or other moves. I had no clue what each individual button did, and to some degree today, that pretty much holds true. I just seem to have a luck with fighting games where I don’t always win, but I pretty much hold my own. This used to piss off my guy friends all the time when I was younger. The fact that I could not only beat them in MK, but that I could somehow pull a fatality combination out of my ass on top of it, always caused annoyance and anger.

When Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe came out for PS3 I was completely psyched. I love that game. I have learned what two buttons mean, but for the most part, it is still a guessing game to me. And while I don’t always win, I do a damn good job of holding my own. Tonight I was playing a friend and I discovered some moves for Cat Woman that we had never seen before.
