Tonight I headed to the Yucca Tap Room for some rockaroke (finally). Rockaroke is karaoke but without that horrid music that sounds like an f’ed up midi file mixed with an accordion. Rockaroke uses a band and you are the vocalist.

I am getting over a slight cough, but still wanted to take a stab at it. We all know I rarely pass up an offer to get on stage and perform.

I decided to go with 4 Non Blonde’s What’s Up and Kayla decided to record it with my Crackberry. The quality obviously is sub-par, but I’m gonna upload it anyway because I kicked ass (even though I messed up the end slightly).

Add another fantastic find to my list. As I stated yesterday, I was determined to start going out more. In particular my goal was to find a sports bar (I really wanted to watch the Packers / Bears game, can you blame me?). I looked through the metromix guide and found some good ones and just as I was about to pick between some upscale ones, I found an actual Green Bay Packers themed bar in Old Town Scottsdale. Mabel Murphys which is in Oshkosh, WI, is apparently also in the Phoenix area. I got there late as I had to run back to Tempe first to do some stuffs, and it was completely packed by the time I got there, but the more the merrier! This place is PERFECT.

First, here are a couple things you see as you head towards the entrance:

Inside was crazy insanity and I felt like I was back in Wisconsin, no joke. Everyone was dressed in their GB gear and the game was on every single TV in the joint. I was drinking Sunset Wheat and yelling at the screen like the rest of them, and didn’t feel the slightest bit out of place. In fact, I might’ve been the milder of them all, seeing as I had been at work all day and hadn’t had much of a dinner yet. During commercials the song “The Bears Still Suck” would play occasionally and everyone would join in song.

Also, here is a video of everyone breaking out into song. Once again, mind the quality and the movement of the camera. It was bad enough I was trying not to sing while taking it.. don’t make me stop dancing!

I found the awesome tiny obscure bar near my house last night. Actually, I found it a couple weeks ago, but finally ventured out to it last night. I remembered on the way in that it was finals week, and I don’t think it was as crowded as it usually is. However, it was still great.

A friend of mine joined me in an effort to check out the open mic night at the Yucca Tap Room. It was a really neat place to relax at. Also especially important is the fact that they offer High Life in the bottle and PBR, Old Style, and Schlitz in cans Makes me think Milwaukee is just a tad bit closer.

The open mic night seemed to have a pretty solid routine. I am not sure if they sign up in advance or if it’s the same group over and over again and they just have a rhythm, but it was very precise. Some pretty interesting musicians and an overall good night.

Makes me happy to have somewhere cozy like that near by.
