Visions of Tattoos Dance in my Head
Nov 8th, 2009 by Tonia

For some reason this experience I will be having for the next few months makes me think I will want to get a tattoo rather than an additional piercing when I return home.

Every once in awhile, my mind will start to drift at night or when I get up to drawings and/or sayings I would want to have on me permanently as well as the right color scheme.

See, it’s never been that I dislike tattoos. I am really a big fan of any type of accessorizing and personalization. I don’t even really have an issue with needles. For me, the issue has always lied in not being able to answer the question, “Will I want this on my body when I’m 82?” With piercings, I don’t need to answer that question. Hell, if I was bored with the piercing or the jewelry tomorrow I could take it out or switch it. Tattoos are a little more permanent.

Occasionally when I would start thinking about it before I left, I would discuss options with other people, such as friends and coworkers. I’m completely torn between going with something that signifies my “phrase” as you will of Rainbow Awesome Unicorn Wow, or something that is just badass and girly, that also portrays me pretty well. The only definite elements I’ve been able to come up with are hot pink and some type of sparkle or glitter effect.

Some ideas that have been given to me are:

  • Literal interpretation of Rainbow Awesome Unicorn Wow
  • My favorite saying wrapped around my stomach but with some design elements to it
  • A badass tramp stamp with a hot pink machine gun (not sure how keen I am on the idea of a tramp stamp)

Why am I writing this post? Well, I’m not a graphic designer by trade, and I don’t do off the shelf accessorizing. I’m hoping that while I’m away on business that someone that reads my blog can come up with some creative ideas I might be able to use. You all know me well enough. I have faith in you.

Poll: Help Pick My Next (Maybe Final) Piercing
May 9th, 2009 by Tonia

Okay, so I am looking for one more fun piercing in my right ear. Today I came across the orbital, which is super cute. I initially wanted to have an orbital around my industrial. However, my hopes of that have gone down a little as I can’t find a picture of it or find anything online about anyone who has. I still haven’t consulted my piercing studio about it yet though.

However, I have found three cute places to put an orbital in my right ear and I’m looking for opinions. There are two considerations that have to be kept in mind. First is I like to use ear buds so I need to make sure that it won’t hit my earbuds when I listen to my iPod. So far my rook in my left has been safe. Second is I have an industrial in that ear. In another month I can switch it to a daintier piece of jewelry but it will be about the same length.

Here is my industrial:

Here are the three spots I am thinking of placing my orbital. Thoughts please.

Going Industrial
Mar 6th, 2009 by Tonia

I got the urge to do another piercing the other day. I knew it would happen eventually. I wanted to even out my face and get some neat piercings in the other ear. I have a thing for small and subtle piercings, yet have to keep in mind that I can’t live without using ear buds with my iPod so I have to be careful where I pierce.

After much consideration I decided on an industrial. The goal was to get a small sexy barbell and not some huge ass ordeal. I went in and decided on an 18 gauge again. However, unlike all the other piercings I have (helix, rook, nose, lobes), this one I couldn’t get anything at least a little cute up front. I needed to get something not as dainty and then can downsize in three months or so. I decided to do it anyway. Eventually it’s going to be awesome.

The first hole was nothing. The second hole actually hurt a little bit. My piercer said that typically happens with the second hole but I forgot to inquire as to if it was because it was the second or because the bottom one just hurts more in general.

My ear looked pretty messed up yesterday, and well to be honest still looks funny to me. It was extremely red and my ear was scrunched together. Now it just looks like I am the man in Happy Gilmore that got a nail to his head, except it’s in my ear.

Since it’s larger and on the top cartilage it’s easier to bump when I’m doing my hair which is not fun. I have realize though that I can wear one of my hats and it not only keeps me from messing with it but it doesn’t fit close enough to rub against the piercing.

So my first piercing with the lack of immediate cuteness is done and I love it. Only a couple more left :) Then maybe we’ll attempt my one tattoo I want.

Now here’s some pics.

Sexy Lil Diva Mark
Jan 14th, 2009 by Tonia

I’ve been wanting something for a long time now…almost a year really. On a whim today I got it. What is this it, you ask? It’s what I like to call my sexy lil diva mark, otherwise known as a nose piercing.

After getting the bug after work today, I asked my twitter pals in Phoenix where the best place was to go. Jose recommended a great place and then Jenn recommended somewhere that did a great job with her piercings and even fixed piercings gone bad. I decided to go with her recommendation and visit H.T.C.. I was a little nervous, but knew I just had to do it before I regretted it. After a few minutes I picked the mid sized diamond. I wanted to go as tiny as I could, but the tiniest one was just a plain stone and I really like round stones, especially encased in metal and that was the mid sized one.

They did a fantastic job answering all my questions before and after and giving me everything I needed when I went home, including a salt water spray to use to clean it (wish my cartilage piercer had done that).

I have to admit I love it and it’s even behaving nicely and not hurting too badly. How do I blow my nose with this damned thing though? :-)

Due to popular request, here is a quick BlackBerry phone shot (sans makeup, I apologize). Tried to get as closeup as I could so you could actually see it.

What’s next for me? Thinking possibly a cartilage piercing on the inside of my ear or the tattoo I’ve been pondering for ages.
