This year, I will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner for the first time. My brother and his girlfriend are coming in from California, and two friends here in Phoenix are also coming over. I think that Thanksgiving dinner has a certain prestige to it, and several expectations. I am glad I have the courage to attempt this task at hand.
I panicked a little at first, and then the perfectionist in me set in. I went out yesterday and bought a table runner and started to plan for company for the weekend.
I also volunteered to make the turkey. I decided to purchase a free range turkey from Sunflower here in Tempe. It will be ready to cook aside from cleaning it and stuffing it, and I am super excited to have a good wholesome organic turkey for Thanksgiving. While at Target yesterday, I was looking for a roaster pan to put the turkey in the oven with and ended up finding a roaster oven almost half off that was too good of a deal to pass up. I figured this way I would be able to use the oven while cooking the turkey as well. Smart move
My parents called last night to give me their Thanksgiving Day cooking tips and wisdom. My dad was about to mention I get a roaster oven when I mentioned I had thought of it earlier. We really do think so much alike. It makes me wonder if it’s weird to them that I am not coming home for the holidays and am having them at my house.. especially since I don’t really have a typical family per se. Either way, i am so super excited.
We have finalized the menu for dinner today (I think) and it will consist of asparagus, possibly a salad, cheesy potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, and cherry crisp for dessert.. and the turkey of course.
I’ve realized that Thursday is quickly approaching so I have lots to do!
